Humans were meant to live in space, not just survive there.

The Space Age is a multidisciplinary design consultancy that collaborates with industry innovators to solve the toughest challenges facing the future of design in space.

Our mission is to build a livable, inspiring future in space that enhances well-being and quality of life for people everywhere.

We solve problems at the intersection of architecture and engineering, bringing together the best of both worlds.

Our area of expertise is high-performance architecture, whether it’s a sustainable house, a multi-story lab building, a research module in low-Earth orbit, or a human habitat at the Lunar south pole.

We think in systems, designing not just objects or spaces, but resilient frameworks that adapt, respond, and endure. We translate architectural insights and best practices into thoughtful human-centered design interventions. We bring an understanding of the space technical environment and the specific challenges facing space habitation.

We imagine a world where going to space is an everyday reality. We work with you to bridge the divide between today’s realities and tomorrow’s possibilities.

Let's get started

How We Collaborate

At the foundation of working at the intersection of architecture and space is a belief that building a better world is possible.

The Space Age seeks to inspire current and future generations by imagining a positive vision for our future in space, then works to build that vision.

Where engineers are great at optimizing and solving problems, architects are great at establishing a guiding vision, a concept for the lived experience of a place, and a holistic process by which the broader team can realize that vision. Architects are used to working with engineers.

Imagining a study abroad program in space

A 10-week study abroad program in low Earth orbit with a dedicated module to serve as a home away from home for 6 students and two faculty. This speculative study is an exploration in the interior design, utilizing materials, lighting, and spatial conditions seldom seen in spacecraft.

Human centered design, demonstrated on Earth

Architectural experience with complex, multistory lab buildings supporting cutting-edge science transfers best practices to labs on orbit. Human-centered design responds to the needs of researchers first, constructing lab layouts around them and maximizing science returns. Our experience is built on a foundation of architectural practice on Earth, demonstrated by built work around the world.

Enabling microgravity research in low-Earth orbit

Commercial laboratories in LEO provide the foundation for groundbreaking science, research, and development in the microgravity environment. Human-centered design meets engineering efficiency in a flexible on-orbit science lab. Design begins at the concept level, enabling complete integration of vehicle systems and habitability considerations. Holistic co-development can occur faster and with seamless engineering team integration.

Achieving artificial gravity through modular design

Human-centered design meets engineering efficiency in a modular on-orbit science laboratory designed for artificial gravity. A repeatable module is designed simultaneously with the overall rotating space station, emphasizing a mass-production approach to simplify on-orbit assembly and reduce costs.
